YEHUD AR GERAH (OBOL) UNDER PERSIAN RULE
Hendin 6052, Near Very Fine, worn died, 8.9mm, .58 gram, Struck Circa. 4th Century B.C.E., Under Persian Rule
Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena (die worn and off centered)
Reverse: Owl standing to left, head facing, 'YHD' retrograde to left, olive spray in right field
The owl facing left is RARE for the owl Yehud, and most were struck from this one die. It was used for a very long time through considerable wear and a die break which continued to strike about half the existing coins. Owl side, though die is worn, is complete with the FULL Yehud inscription! Coin is struck on excellent metal.
