VESPASIAN AR DENARIUS - JUDAEA CAPTA

Hendin 6616, RIC 361 (Titus), RSC 146, About Very Fine, few light scratches, 20.2mm, 3.29 grams, Struck Circa. 80/81 C.E., Rome Mint

Obverse: DIVVS AVGVSTVS VESPASIANVS around laureate head of Vespasian to right

Reverse: Slow quadriga to left, with tensa (car) in form of a small temple, ornamented with figures of Minerva, and surmounted by statuette of quadriga flanked by Victories holding palm fronds and wreaths, EX SC in exergue

Struck posthumously by Titus, a SCARCER type. Struck on a broad flan with a nicely executed Capta reverse! 

Ex: Joseph Marcovic Collection.  Joseph started his collection in the 1930's. He buried his collection when drafted to fight the Germans for Yugoslavia Circa. 1941. He was captured by the Germans. Later returning with his wife to the rubble of his home, he amazingly found the collection still buried intact. He moved with his collection to Israel in 1949 and continued to care for it until his passing in 1981.
