HASMONEAN, JOHN (YOCHANAN) HYRCANUS AE PRUTAH
Hendin 6171, TJC Group A, Good Very Fine, 13.2mm, 1.67 grams
Obverse: Inscription within wreath, "Yehohanan the High Priest and the Council of the Judaeans" in Paleo-Hebrew, "A" above
Reverse: Double cornucopia adorned with ribbons, pomegranate between horns
Handsome, well struck example of an earlier John Hyrcanus reign coin, with a COMPLETE inscription and lovely natural patina!
It is probable that the "A" signifies John Hyrcanus' patron, Antiochos the VII.
