KYRENE, KYRENAICA AR DIDRACHM

SNG Cop. 1238, Müller 156 , Good Very Fine / Very Fine, some light rev. scratches in left field, from an NGC slab graded Ch. VF (scratches apparently not serious enough for mention), 21.7mm, 7.68 grams, Struck under Magas, half brother of Ptolemy I, Circa. 308 - 277  B.C.E.

Obverse: Horned head of Apollo Carneios to left

Reverse: Silphium plant, monogram in upper left field, star in upper right field, KY PA across lower fields

A reasonable example with an attractive portrait with better detail than typical for this type!

The Silphium plant made Cyrene quite wealthy. It was used as both a spice and remedy.
