"COIN OF THE MONTH" - VESPASIAN " IVDAEA " AR DENARIUS
Hendin 6510, RIC 4, RSC 229, Very Fine / Near Very Fine, 17.6mm, 3.37 grams
Obverse: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG around laureate head of Vespasian to right
Reverse: Judaea seated to right, her hands bound behind her back, palm tree to left, IVDAEA in exergue
A RARE Judaea Capta type with the Judaean palm tree instead the Roman trophy. While not comparable in grade to a $5K+ specimen, is definitely a better coin for its type and NOT a fourrée as these often are. Struck on excellent metal with beautiful subtle cabinet toning!
Ex: VJM Collection NJ. Purchased from William M. Rosenblum Rare Coins in 1985
