HGC 4, 1597, NGC encapsulated, AU, 5/5, 4/5, Fine Style 17.14 grams, Struck Circa. 455 - 440 B.C.E.
Obverse: Head of Athena to right with frontal eye, wearing crested Attic helmet, decorated with three olive leaves and a spiral palmette on the bowl
Reverse: Owl standing to right, head facing, olive sprig and crescent to left, AΘE to right, all within incuse square
A high grade, FINE STYLE, scarcer early Athens owl Tetradrachm with a subtle patina! The only issue is the slight corrosion near the right reverse rim which to the eye blends in to the overall archaic look of the coin. Tremendous eye appeal!
