HEROD THE GREAT AE "TEMPLE TABLE" PRUTAH, 40 - 4 B.C.E.
Hendin 6215 (GBC5 1184), Very Fine, flan flaw, 15.5mm, 1.61 grams
Obverse: Greek inscription KING HEROD in irregular lines
Reverse: Tripod table within circle of dots
A very nice and centered example. The dies with the name of Herod were larger than the planchets that were struck, so unless a flan was broader than intended, it was impossible for the coin to depict the entire die (weird, isn't it?). This coin actually has a high number of these letters present as it is very well centered!
