KINGS OF LYDIA, CROESUS AR HALF STATER
SNG Kayhan 1024-6, Berk 23, NGC Graded Choice Fine, Strike 5/5, Surface 5/5, 5.39 grams, Struck Circa. 561 - 520 B.C.E.
Obverse: Confronted foreparts of lion left and bull right
Reverse: Two incuse squarees
A LOVELY example, graded very conservatively. No doubt many would grade this coin VF, so it is really CHOICE fine. Strike and surfaces are EXCELLENT, with very appealing old toning. A quality coin, worthy of a fine collection.
Most date this type to the time of Croesus, 561 - 546 B.C.E., while some extend the possibilty of its mintage to the times of Cyrus and Darios I to 520 B.C.E.
