"COIN OF THE MONTH" - YEHUD AR HALF GERAH (1/2 OBOL) UNDER PERSIAN RULE
Hendin 6058, GBC 5 - 1059, Near Extremely Fine, 7.7mm, .28 gram, Struck Circa. 4th Century B.C.E., Under Achaemenid Persian Rule
Obverse: Crowned and bearded head of the Persian King to right
Reverse: Falcon upward, head to left, 'YHD' (in Paleo-Hebrew) in outer left field
EXEMPLARY Persian King portraiture (and on the coin, unlike many) and a coin with great detail. This reverse die is notorious for die breaks. However, this coin was struck in the earlier part of the dies usage when the breaks were just at their commencement. A high QUALITY example!
