A nicely engraved, pedigreed, Rare Year Three Half Shekel of the First Jewish Revolt against Rome. There haven't been many of these around lately. This example has lovely cabinet toning and a nice strike. The metal edge flaws and slightly low weight make it quite affordable and an excellent balance of price and appeal. These Half Shekels known as the Machzit HaShekel were struck at the Temple precinct in Jerusalem and used to pay the annual half shekel Temple tax during the revolt.

For comparable, a similar example has sold recently (see here) for $16,800 and a high quality example (see here) for $33,600.
