BAR KOCHBA AE MEDIUM DENOMINATION, "WIDE LYRE", YEAR ONE - 132/133 C.E.
Hendin 1377, Mildenberg 23,Very Fine+, 22mm, 9.56 grams
Obverse: Palm branch within wreath "Simon Prince of Israel" in Paleo-Hebrew around
Reverse: Lyre (Kinor) with six strings, "Year One of the Redemption of Israel" in Paleo-Hebrew around
One of the nicer examples of this very scarce Bar Kokhba bronze that we have seen, BOLDLY struck and clear! This die is the ONLY one with the wide lyre of SIX strings. Due to the large size of the die and the fact that they were struck on the Medium denominations, the full legend is never contained within the coin flan (and it is so depicted in Hendin's Guide to Biblical Coins)
