MITHRADATES II AR DRACHM, 121 - 91 B.C.E.

Sellwood 24.20, Shore 75, Choice Extremely Fine, struck with somewhat worn obverse die, 20.6mm, 3.88 grams, Rhagai mint

Obverse: Bearded, diademed bust of Mithradates to left, monogram behind

Reverse:Beardless archer wearing bashlyk and cloak seated right, holding bow in right hand, ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ ΑΡΣΑΚΟΥ ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ  around, AP monogram in exergue

A SUPERB COIN of a RARE variety! We have seen only three examples with these mintmarks (only 2 in acsearch) and all in MUCH lower condition and of poorer preservation.

(During the Tannaic Mid-late second Temple period Parthia is the country known as Babylon or Bavel)
