JOHN (YOCHANAN) HYRCANUS AE "JERUSALEM LILY" PRUTAH FOR ANTIOCHUS VII

Hendin 1131var, SNG Spaer 2148 Choice VF+, 14mm, 2.58 grams, Struck Circa. 132 - 130 B.C.E.

Obverse: Inverted anchor surrounded by inscription "of King Antiochus benefactor

Reverse: Lily

A RARE coin of lovely style with NO DATE! Hendin's GBC catalogs only dated coins. Because the prutot are small it is quite common that the dates did not have room on the flan. SNG Spaer has one example 2148 which is described as "illegible date". However, there does not appear to be a date on the coin at all. This coin confirms that there WAS an undated issue. There is plenty of room both below the anchor and to the left where the date can appear and the inscriptions are bold, clear and strong indicating no mis-strike.
