CARACALLA, DIOCASEAREA, CILICIA AE
SNG Levante 673, SNG Paris 871, NGC XF, countermarks, about 31mm, Struck Circa. 198 - 217 C.E.
Obverse: AYTOK KAIC M AYP ANTΩNEINOC CEB around laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to right, two countermarks in field
Reverse: Athena driving galloping quadriga to left, holding thunderbolt in her right hand and shield decorated with aegis in her left
SCARCE and large, and an interesting coin. The flat area on the reverse is an effect of the striking of the countermarks (which is the usual case for this issue).
