"COIN OF THE MONTH" - HEZEKIAH  AR YEHUD, 1/2 MA'AH

Hendin 1065, TJC 24, Extremely Fine, 7.1mm, .22 grams. Struck Circa. 4th Century B.C.E., Late Persian or early Macedonian Period

Obverse: Male head to left

Reverse: Inscription YEHEZEKIA ('YHZQYH’) below forepart of winged and horned lynx to left

SUPERP Extremely Fine with a sharp and clear inscription

One of the best examples known with even the folds in the cheek clearly delineated. Affordable because the obverse is somewhat off center. The few specimens that have come to auction in similar grade with better centering have fetched $3,000 - $6,000. Nevertheless has tremendous eye appeal and is a coin to be appreciated in hand!

Note: The coin is not that dark. Contrast is created by the photography.
