"COIN OF THE MONTH" - BAR KOCHBA AE MEDIUM DENOMINATION, "WIDE LYRE", YEAR ONE - 132/133 C.E.

Mildenberg 20, Hendin 1377, EF / Bold GVF, 24.8mm, 9.85 grams

Obverse: Palm branch within wreath "Simon Prince of Israel" in Paleo-Hebrew around

Reverse: Lyre (Kinor) with six strings, "Year One of the Redemption of Israel" in Paleo-Hebrew around

A nice size flan and BOLD strike on this attractive, SCARCE type early Bar Kokhba bronze.

Interesting overstrike, apparently over a city coin. We can't recall seeing this before but you can make out the face and turreted crown and well as some of the body profile of Tyche standing to left in the center of the coin, with her head just above the palm branch.
