FAUSTINA JR., ABILA OF THE DECAPOLIS AE, 162/163 C.E. Meshorer 211 - the PLATE coin, Sofaer 8, Spijkerman 6, Very Fine, 16.3mm, 2.86 grams PLATE coin for Meshorer "City Coins of Eretz Yisrael and the Decapolis in the Roman Period"
Obverse: ΦΑΥСΤЄΙΝΑ СЄΒΑСΤΗ around draped bust of Faustina Junior to right
Reverse: Bunch of grapes on stem, СЄΛЄYK ΑΒΙΛΑ ϚΚС around (date 226 = 162/163 C.E.)
Nice example of this scarcer city depicting grapes which were Abila's chief export commodity. Quite unusual this small city coin to have the FULL inscription on both obverse and reverse!
