Product Description

BAR KOCHBA AR SELA / TETRADRACHM

Mildenberg 57, Near Extremely Fine, 26.1mm, 14.37 grams

Obverse: Temple Facade, holy of holies with ark staves within protruding, surrounded by inscription "SHIMON"  in paleo hebrew.

Reverse: Arba Minim (Palm branch, willow, myrtle and etrog (one each as per opinion of Rabbi Akiba), surrounded by inscription "TO THE FREEDOM OF JERUSALEM"

A nice example of this Mildenberg number, we note that the obverse which is #13 is typified by the die break on this die. (In other words virtually all have this raised apparition.) All Bar Kokhba Sela's are overstruck. However unlike the Zuzim it is unusual to have much of a clear undertype on a Sela, as they were hammered quite thoroughly. This coin has a CLEAR upper portrait of Trajan and the FULL NAME of Trajan in Greek is preserved. See inset photo. A nice example of quite an UNUSUAL SELA!

Ex: Nussbaum Collection, NY

Only US dollar checks drawn on a US bank or Bank Wire can be accepted for this coin.
